11.-12.10. 200 A big success achieved by a Czech driver Míra POPOV in Spain in Championship precategory of adults of 125ccm, METRAKIT 80 v Alcarrasu . Míra placed 2nd in qualification and in competition start/finish he won.
Alcarras a private family circuit approximately 170km from Barcelona. This modern circuit is of a high quality, with a inner minibike and carting tracks, there are also being built swimming pools. Morning trainings did not finish very positively, he built his motorbike on the front wheel in the first treaining, but I was happy, that he was OK, tha fall looked very disastrous and Mira was too fast in the curve. Our mechanic has to mend the bike, and we did not manage to mend it in time, so we could not continuous in our morning training. During the afterlunch siesta it is impossible to do anything in Spain. Since the last time, Mira was in Alcarras, he got faster by 0,7 sec, so we had to find optimal setting of the motorcycle. The driver has to follow the instructions to help the mechanic to find the optimal setting, this is not easy, because there are more drivers, who can cause problems on the trail, so the instructions is very difficult to follow. His coach often says: We are looking for driver, who drives the motorbike to the finish, not a driver who is driven! In the first measured training we found out that the setting was optimal and Mira was 2nd, which was quite enough but even though motivating for next training. There was place for getting better. The boss decided to change the gear, which was finally a very good decision. In the second measured training Mira had some of the best times among drivers, but Cardus overtook him and finally the results from the first measured training were better. The start from the first row was not only motivating for Mira, but also nervousness. There was a big concern in Mira from the Spanish media as well. Personally I expected not very good start of Mira, but surprisingly this time Mira managed the start well and he was first at the end of the first I could not believe it, but Mira got better, he started to draw apart from the rest. It looked very simple good start, draw apart and check your back, but the reality was different. Two laps remaining to the finis, the exhaust absorber fell down from Mira´s motorcycle, the engine power was getting lower and the competitors were getting closer. I was also nervous, because there was a possibility of protesting against the noisiness limits, which were not now fulfilled. Finally he came to the finis with the 4 sec advantage. I have to admit that my nerves graduated to the maximum. I was sick even after the ceremony. Mira felt great it was the first time we celebrated such a success, he was all wet by champagne. Randy Mamola congratulated him. We knew that Mira was a very good pilot, but nobody expected, that he manages to stand on the podium, I was told by his coach, but I did not believe until the race in Alcarras. Now Mira was 3rd in total, in his first season in Spain. If Metrakit allows us to use the motorcycle, we would like to take part in championship in Valencia in circuit of Ricardo Torma ot the first weekend in November. So we will see.
